Well, I rarely look for ebooks unless someone I know recommend them. But I know quite a few websites can be used to read or download free ebooks.

Don Reisinger from Webware.com just has recommended below 7 websites:

1. Alex Catalogue of Electronic Books
2. AskSam
3. Bartleby
4. Google Books
5. Great Book and Classics
6. Perseus Digital Library
7. Project Gutenberg

And Don’s top three are Google Books, Bartleby and Project Gutenberg.

As a matter of fact, besides these 7 websites, there are at least another 7 websites for free ebooks reading or downloading:

8. Free-eBooks

Free-eBooks is powered by Google and is powerful since there are many ebooks for you to download or read online.

9. Flazx

You can not preview but only download the ebooks, and you have to click the DOWNLOAD button three times when downloading.

10. The eBook Directory

The eBook Directory calls itself “the biggest directory of free downloadable ebooks online”, please don’t be bothered by the ads.

11. The Online Book Page

Only a part of ebook are available to be downloaded directly from this website, though which is “Listing over 35,000 free books on the Web”, most of the ebooks have to be read or downloaded from other websites, and the downloading may be not free.

12. GetFreeEbooks

This is a blog all about free ebooks, and like The Online Book Page, you maybe have to download the ebooks from other websites since GetFreeEbooks does not store eBooks itself.

If you like to read eBooks with your mobile phone, you can try tx2ph.

13. Tx2ph

You don’t need to download and install any software on your phone, but you have to sign up before you can read.

By the way, if JAR, PRC or RTF files can be opened by your mobile phone, mnybks.net is also a nice website to download the free ebooks directly from your mobile phone.
